Sweet Stuff

awwwww, some really sweet things have happened over the last week... and i just wanted to share them with you.....

1: James and Harry found a woodlouse in the garden....... and for the first time ever i saw James be gentle.... he is very heavy handed with toys, Harry.. every thing in fact so to see him be so gentle was so sweet. as he touched it , it automatically rolled into a ball.... when it uncurled all its legs were waving in the air...... James so gently rolled it on to its feet... and then he just walked off (  thats James not the woodlouse! LOL)

2: As most of you know, we use Makaton signing, Harry has been signing now for a while...... not all signs... after all he is only 15 months, but he knows about 7 - 10 signs now and uses them alot.
We sing songs all day long at home, we sing songs to every thing we do... James responds better to singing... for instance... ' this is the way we wash our hands, wash our hands, wash our hands, this is the way we wash our hands, when we are all mucky' * how i wish you could hear me singing that right now! LOL
anyway...... all the songs we sing have actions..... and James and Harry at the same time the other night both did all the actions to hickory dickory dock.
What a FANTASTIC moment.  How cool was that.
Someone once said the children with ASD dont respond to signs..... well James does. he has been looking at my hands now more and more the last week. He has only just started to discover that his arms and legs are his ( im not sure he does yet, but certainly fascinated by them) he has now started to closely look at his hands. He has signed just once... and that was about a butterfly, we weren't talking about them....... he was looking at a picture of one and signed it. There's an awful lot in James mind going on That I'm not aware of. Sometimes I think he knows more than me about things, but then is confused by his own body parts etc, and our DR feels he sees people as objects rather than people........

oh I went off on one there! LOL

and now the 3rd thing ( you know how I am with things in threes!)

3: James has begun to copy  a sound. Harry has been saying uhh ohh now at least 60 times a day for the last  4 months.. so its something that is said an awful lot! LOL  Today James copied it... and to hear him say uhhh ohhh rather than a sound he makes all the time, was the most exciting thing ever... to actually hear his voice, that will sound silly to some... but the sounds he makes now are more noises, grunts, screams, mmmmmmimg etc. so to hear his voice is AMAZING. Even little Harry looked amazed... harry gave a fantastic laugh... It was a really proud moment :)

Much  love x
